5 Questions to Ask Your Web Designer

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

It’s important to be 100% informed before you decide to create a new website for your company. Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions before you commit to work with any web designer.

1.      What is the difference between a template website and a custom website?

2.      How long will it take for my website to be completed?

3.      What are Meta and Title Tags and how can they help my website?

4.      After my website has been completed, how do I go about updating images and text?

5.      Once my website is built, how do I get customers to see it online?

What is FTP Access?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

FTP access is the standard in the industry for accessing files online. There can be many different uses.

As web designers, here at First Source Web it is necessary to gather FTP access information from each of our clients. This allows us to transfer files to and from servers. The main benefit to using FTP Access is the ability to access files quickly. The alternative would be to burn files onto a disk and mail it to us- which can be frustrating for both us and our clients.

Your current hosting company should be able to give you  FTP Access login information. This would include a host name, user name and password. This login information ONLY allows access to files on your server, such as your website files.

Another way of getting usage out of FTP Access is by adding it to your new website. Some companies like to offer a way for their clients to access files or upload files directly to them online. This takes away the headache of zipping files through e-mail or wiating forever for a large file to clear your outbox.

If you are interested in looking into using FTP Access for your new website just let us know. There are many programs out there on the market, most of them are free too!
